Hunter Shepard

The evidence I found does not support the premise that Shepard is currently with Ottawa: he was traded away from the Senators, and I found no current reporting placing him on Ottawa's 2026-27 training camp roster.

Role

Unconfirmed. The most recent transaction I found was the Montreal Canadiens' announcement, dated March 13, 2026 on NHL.com, that they had acquired Shepard (along with forward Jake Chiasson) from Ottawa in exchange for Riley Kidney. After that, a July 23, 2026 report from Russian Machine Never Breaks raised the possibility of Shepard signing with KHL club Barys Astana, but I found nothing confirming that deal closed. I found no Daily Faceoff line/goalie-tandem page, beat-writer report, or Athletic piece placing him in Ottawa's training camp or exhibition lineup for the 2026-27 season, and no NHL.com transaction reinstating him to the Senators' organization. Given this, I cannot state a current line, power-play unit, or goalie-tandem split for him on Ottawa, because the record I can verify has him leaving that organization months ago.

Where analysts split

I found no analyst debate about Shepard's 2026-27 role because I could not locate current coverage placing him on an NHL training camp roster at all, let alone Ottawa's. The premise that he is Ottawa's goaltender for this season is not supported by anything I found; the last confirmed team transaction has him going to Montreal in March 2026, followed by an unconfirmed KHL rumor in July 2026.
