Jacob Markstrom
Markstrom is Florida's No. 1 goalie on the shelf with an upper-body injury, and the reporting I found gives no return date past the coach's 10-14 day estimate from 20 October.
Role
When healthy he is the starter. Coach Paul Maurice said on 20 October that he is out 10-14 days after taking a puck, reportedly off his shoulder, in practice on 19 October (TSN, Daily Faceoff, Florida Hockey Now). He went on injured reserve, which carries a minimum of seven days (Florida Hockey Now). Akira Schmid is getting the bulk of the starts, and rookie Cooper Black, recalled from Charlotte, is the backup (SI, Daily Faceoff, 20 October). Daily Faceoff's Panthers page, fetched 26 October, shows its goalie section cut off, so I could not read it. Inside the Rink's 25 October projection and NHL.com's projected lineup for the Panthers-Blackhawks game both list Schmid and Black, with Markstrom injured. He also missed two games earlier this month after leaving the 12 October loss to Buffalo with lower-body tightness (Florida Hockey Now). In the data we hold he has 6 GP and 0 GS, and the tandem split after he returns is not reported.
Schmid has been shaky (2-1, 3.25 GAA, .878 SV% per SI) and Black is an NHL rookie. That leaves a clear path for Markstrom to resume the No. 1 job once healthy. The injury is a puck hit, not a structural problem, and the 10-14 day window is short. NHL.com has him 3-1-1 with a 2.21 GAA in six games, and Florida reacquired him from New Jersey on 30 June.
This is his second injury in about a week, after the lower-body tightness on 12 October. He is 36. Florida is already without Barkov and Marchand, who are out until at least mid-November (Yahoo), so team results may be uneven while he is out. His .897 SV% is middling, and Schmid has proven capable enough as a stopgap. Maurice has also said Black will play, so the work is being spread around.
Where analysts split
Broad agreement on the injury timeline: every outlet repeats Maurice's 10-14 days. The open question I could not resolve is whether Markstrom goes straight back to a heavy starter's workload after returning or shares starts with Schmid for a while. No coverage I found addresses it.

Upper-body injury, on IR
IR designation with an expected return around 2026-11-04 means he will miss roughly two weeks of games; treat as out for fantasy purposes until closer to that date.
What would change this: Any update on practice participation or official reinstatement from IR as the return date approaches
Research confidence: reported. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
