Logan Thompson

Consensus #76 · G11 · tier 5Week 5: 2 gamesUpdated Nov 2

Thompson looks like Washington's lead goalie again after a lower-body injury. Daily Faceoff's page, which I fetched, shows him starting on Oct. 28 and again on Sunday, Nov. 1, so the game-time-decision note appears to be stale.

Role

Daily Faceoff's Thompson news page (fetched Nov. 2) shows him as the starter. It shows a lower-body injury on Oct. 21, an IR placement retroactive to Oct. 20, a return to practice Oct. 26, and full practice Oct. 27. A note stamped Oct. 28 says he led the team onto the ice for warmups. A Nov. 1 note from Tom Gulitti says he starts Sunday vs. the Wild. Charlie Lindgren is the backup and is the one who starts when Thompson is out. The pages I read give no formal split and no percentage of starts, and no result for the Wild game. Daily Faceoff's preseason-style note says to expect Thompson to carry a heavy workload. Last season's line in our data is 9 GP, 1 GS, 5 W, 4 L, 229 SV on 255 SA, 26 GA, which I'm using as given.

The case for

Daily Faceoff describes him as one of the league's most consistent goalies over several seasons, coming off consecutive 31-win seasons. He opened this season 2-0-0 with a .921 SV% and was 4-2-0 with a 2.69 GAA and .910 SV% through six games. He is back as the starter right after the injury, and the club has been described as eagerly awaiting his return.

The case against

His numbers slid before the injury: three or more goals allowed in three of his last four (1-3-0), with a 3.58 GAA and .880 SV%, which Daily Faceoff says is not up to his usual standard. The lower-body issue cost him at least two games and IR time, and Daily Faceoff's earlier coverage describes his health as the longstanding knock on him. If it recurs, Lindgren takes the work.

Where analysts split

Broad agreement on role: he is the starter with Lindgren behind him. The only open question in what I read is whether the lower-body injury lingers or recurs. The pages I read show no analyst arguing otherwise.

Research confidence: reported. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
