Philipp Grubauer
Grubauer has shared the Kraken net with Joey Daccord this season and has been starting often, but he was pulled in his most recent reported start (Oct. 30 at Calgary), so his hold on the share looks shaky.
Role
Goalie in a Seattle tandem with Joey Daccord. ESPN's team line page, about 12 days old in the search result, lists Grubauer as starter and Daccord as backup. FlamesNation, about two days old, said Daily Faceoff projected Grubauer to start Oct. 30 with Daccord backing up. A Fox Sports blurb about nine days old said Grubauer had started four of Seattle's last five games and had 'temporarily usurped' Daccord for the No. 1 job. That blurb had Daccord and Grubauer splitting the first four games. On Oct. 30, per KOMO, Grubauer 'was pulled after allowing four goals on 14 shots' and Daccord made 11 saves in relief. I could not read a current Daily Faceoff line page: the fetch returned only a page last updated 2025-07-26 with no names. I have no reporting on whether the Kraken have named a No. 1 since Oct. 30.
Grubauer got the larger share of starts in the stretch before Oct. 30. Fox Sports noted he won four of five starts and earned seven of eight possible standings points in that stretch. Daccord was described as struggling to get on track this season. Grubauer is 34, with last season's 9 GP, 1 GS and 26 GA on 228 SA behind him, so a fast start and a hot hand are the case for him keeping a large share.
The sample is small and the results are uneven. Daily Faceoff's Oct. 30 note gave him a 4.81 GAA and .839 SV% in six appearances (1-4-0), while the header on the same page showed different season figures (4-2-1, 3.31 GAA, .887 SV%). I can't reconcile those. He was pulled against Calgary after four goals on 14 shots. Fox noted he allowed 15 goals in a stretch of five starts even while winning four. Daccord is the long-term incumbent and can retake the net quickly.
Where analysts split
The open question is whether Grubauer's early-season edge in starts holds after the Calgary pull, or whether Daccord goes back to the larger share. ESPN and the Daily Faceoff projection lean Grubauer as starter, while Fox's wording of 'temporarily' suggests the edge could be short-lived. I found no beat-writer or Athletic piece that settles it.
Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
