Dillon Brooks
Brooks looks like a starting forward on a Phoenix team that is struggling early, and his usage this season is the open question.
Role
The starting five in Heavy's piece, which was indexed as 0 days old, is Devin Booker, Jalen Green, Brooks, Miles Bridges and Khaman Maluach. Brooks played 23 minutes in the Oct 17 preseason finale, behind only Booker (26) and Maluach (24), per RotoWire via CBS Sports. A Hottakes item from the past day puts his early-season line at 10.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, but that is a small sample from a low-quality source, so treat it cautiously. I found no reported usage rate and no back-to-back rest plan. Backups on ESPN's depth chart, which I saw only as a search snippet and did not fetch, include Ryan Dunn, Rasheer Fleming and Koa Peat. The wire note about sitting out the Spurs preseason game is old: he said he would play the Oct 17 finale and did.
He has a new three-year extension and is in line to start. RotoWire and Yahoo's preseason profile expect him to be a top-three scorer on the team, and he scored 20.2 points per game last season. He drew the opponent's top perimeter assignment, and he looked ready with 18 points in 23 minutes in the preseason finale.
ESPN's fantasy blurb says Jalen Green's health and Miles Bridges's arrival will likely cost Brooks usage after his career-best season. Yahoo flags his shot selection (long twos, contested threes) as a problem in a lineup full of low-efficiency scorers. The team is also struggling: Hottakes describes a lineup shake-up after a 41-point loss to Portland, and his early scoring is reportedly around 10 per game.
Where analysts split
The split is how much scoring usage Brooks keeps now that Booker, Green and Bridges share the floor with him. Optimists project him as a top-three scorer, while ESPN expects his usage to fall from last year's career-best level. His starting spot itself is not in dispute in what I found.
Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
