Jaylen Brown
Jaylen Brown is a 30-year-old high-minute starting wing on a new, star-heavy Sixers team. His left knee tendinopathy is the one thing that could cut into that workload.
Role
He has played in five of six Sixers games this season, missing only Friday's Knicks game. Through his first five he averaged 20.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.2 steals in 36.4 minutes (Basketnews, Oct. 30). He played 38 minutes in Saturday's 109-104 win at Charlotte, with 16 points on 6-of-15 shooting (Fox Sports/RotoWire game log). Fox Sports lists him alongside Tyrese Maxey, LeBron James and Joel Embiid, and that coverage described him as a team-high 38-minute player who stayed heavily involved. Basketnews named Dean Wade and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope as the beneficiaries when he sat, and VJ Edgecombe as another player expected to step up. I did not find a published starting five or a minutes tracker, so I can't say who starts around him. Nothing I found says he sits back-to-backs.
He was acquired as a reliable star and has been given a heavy workload next to Maxey, James and Embiid. He is producing across the box score. He played 34 minutes in Indiana with 20 points and 10 rebounds, and returned for 38 minutes the next time the team played after missing Friday. The team called it knee soreness, and The Sixer Sense noted it is not the knee he had meniscus surgery on.
The knee is a patellar tendinopathy diagnosis, a tendon problem that can linger. He already has a surgical history on the other knee, and he had knee trouble in March 2025. The Sixers have several stars, so the team may manage his minutes. His Saturday outing was inefficient despite the 38 minutes. The Yahoo piece noted that he ranked among the league leaders in minutes before the knee flared.
Where analysts split
The open question is whether the patellar tendinopathy forces ongoing rest or minute limits, or whether Friday's absence was a one-off. Coverage I found is mostly injury news, not analysis. I did not find an analyst making a firm argument either way, and the team has not said anything about a load plan.
