Kyshawn George

Consensus #140 · SF56 · tier 6Week 3: 4 gamesUpdated Oct 26

George opens the season as a starting wing for Washington with real playmaking duties, and his workload looks tied to whether rookie AJ Dybantsa returns from his ankle injury.

Role

He has played 29 minutes against Milwaukee on Oct 21, 26 against Toronto on Oct 23 and 36 at Chicago on Oct 24 (NBA.com game log). Bullets Forever had his usage at 26.6% in the Chicago win. FantasySP (two days old) says he was slated to start on the wing against Toronto. It ties that to Dybantsa being out with an ankle injury. CBS Sports has him penciled in as the starting shooting guard. In camp, Yahoo reported he took over point guard duties when Trae Young sat. He expected to keep initiating the second unit's offense. Coach Brian Keefe said a preseason start did not guarantee an opening-night spot. I did not read a current depth chart or starting-lineup page, so the exact starting five is unconfirmed. Competition for wing minutes includes Dybantsa and Tre Johnson (named behind him on a FantasyData depth chart that I could not date). No back-to-back rest plan has been reported.

The case for

He has the ball in his hands and a connector role the front office likes. In camp he ran the offense when Young sat and drew point-of-attack defensive assignments. Early games show real minutes and stock production. In Chicago he had 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks in 36 minutes. FantasySP also reports his roster rate rising to 81% after a strong opener (18 points, 5 rebounds in 28 minutes).

The case against

The roster is crowded. CBS Sports said the Wizards added Dybantsa at the top of the draft, re-signed Young and brought in Anthony Davis, so George's shot volume could shrink once everyone is healthy. Efficiency and turnovers are shaky early. He shot 2-for-9 with 8 turnovers against Toronto and had 4 turnovers in the preseason opener. Yahoo also raised the question of whether he can hold a high-usage pace over a full 82 games.

Where analysts split

The question is whether George keeps the starting job and a high-usage role once Dybantsa is healthy, and whether he or another guard runs the second unit alongside Young and Davis. Current coverage frames this as an open question rather than a settled split among named analysts.
