Zaccharie Risacher

Consensus #53 · SF19 · tier 4Week 3: 4 gamesUpdated Oct 26

Risacher is a Dallas forward in his third season whose current role is a fill-in starter's job. It depends on Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving being out, and the coverage I found does not describe a settled long-term role.

Role

He played 27 minutes off the opener on Oct. 21 and 32 minutes in each of the next two games, per CBS/Rotowire, NBA.com and ESPN. NBA.com's news feed says he started Saturday's game against San Antonio, and ESPN says he and Naji Marshall moved into the starting five because Irving (rest) and Flagg (shoulder) were out. ESPN adds that Flagg is expected to miss a few more games with a mild left shoulder sprain, so Risacher should keep an elevated role while Flagg is out. The hip issue is cleared: NBC and NBA.com show him available Saturday and he played. Competition for forward minutes, per a Yahoo piece from the summer, includes P.J. Washington, Santi Aldama, Morez Johnson Jr., Caleb Martin and Marshall. I did not find a published rotation tracker, so I cannot give a usage rate or a settled starting five once everyone is healthy.

The case for

He is getting 30-plus minutes on a roster with a lengthy injury report, and he fills the stat sheet without scoring: five steals and six rebounds in the opener, then three blocks against Indiana and two against San Antonio. The Smoking Cuban notes his energy, rebounding and defense were positives. It also says he could take a bigger share of the shooting if others create for him. The new front office is building around Flagg, and it is a fresh start after he fell out of favor in Atlanta.

The case against

The minutes depend on injuries, and the shooting has been poor. ESPN's early splits show 38.5% from the field and 18.2% from three over 3 games. CBS/Rotowire calls him stream-level only and says he needs to offer more offense to keep a consistent role. NBC says the absences of Flagg and Irving do not guarantee him more usage and that he is probably not worth streaming in most fantasy leagues. Marshall and Washington are named as better options until Flagg returns. Yahoo's summer piece said the crowded forward group might limit his minutes under Dusty May.

Where analysts split

The disagreement is whether the 30-plus minutes continue once Flagg and Irving return. NBC projected a limited bench role early on, and The Smoking Cuban sees a scrappy bench role as his best fit. ESPN frames the starting spot as lasting only while Flagg is out. A second question is whether his steals and blocks can outweigh the poor shooting.
