Cooper Flagg

Consensus #3 · SG2 · tier 1Week 3: 4 gamesUpdated Nov 2

Flagg is Dallas's starting forward and a high-usage, all-around producer who looks healthy again after missing one game with a mild left shoulder sprain.

Role

CBS Sports' 2026-27 splits page (indexed in search, not fetched) lists him as a starting forward with 4 games and 123 minutes. That tally is before his Oct 30 game, so treat it as stale. NBA.com's game log shows 17 minutes on Oct 23 (he left that game with the shoulder injury), then 40, 33 and 39 in his last three games. He missed only the Oct 24 game against San Antonio. Dusty May is the head coach. No minutes restriction or rest plan for this season turned up in my search. Kyrie Irving is the other main ball handler, and Irving sat Oct 24 for knee injury management. Fox Sports named Sergio de Larrea, Jett Howard and Zaccharie Risacher as wings who lose minutes when Flagg plays. I did not find a published usage rate.

The case for

He has scored 26 or more in four of his five games, with a 33-point game against Houston on 13-of-19 shooting. On Oct 26 at Miami he had 29 points, 11 assists, 5 steals and 2 blocks in 40 minutes. He is playing starter minutes and filling every box-score category, with free throw volume as well (11-of-13 in the opener, 7-of-10 against Houston).

The case against

Three-point shooting has been poor early: by my tally from NBA.com's last-five log he is 7-of-26. He has also turned the ball over 3 or more times in four of five games, including 5 at Miami. The shoulder sprain came from a hard fall, and he left the Oct 23 game early, so contact on drives carries some re-injury risk. That risk is my inference, and I found no reporting that says it. Dallas also leans heavily on him, with 40-minute nights already in the log.
