Devin Booker
Booker is the Suns' first option and starting point guard this season, and the sources I found show no sign of a role change.
Role
Heavy.com, in a piece dated today, lists him at point guard in a starting five of Green, Brooks, Bridges and Maluach, with a 10-man rotation behind them (Gillespie, Goodwin, Kennard, Dunn, Ighodaro). RealGM's depth chart page, read from a search snippet and not fetched, shows a 29.5 minutes and 23.0 points per game projection for him. I did not find a reported usage rate. ESPN's depth chart snippet has him as the starter at PG and third at SG behind Green and Kennard. The center spot is unsettled: BVM Sports (Oct. 15) said Ighodaro or Maluach, one preseason lineup list had Mark Williams on the injured list, and preseason projections listed Williams as the starter. I found nothing on back-to-back rest plans. The wire report says he sat out a preseason game for rest, and I read that as maintenance, not a role change.
He leads a retooled roster and scored 43 in the home opener, a 131-122 win over Golden State, per Heavy.com. The Fadeaway World preview says he is the only player on the team it fully trusts as a nightly top option. It also argues that added talent (Green, Bridges) could lift his efficiency by cutting the difficult shots he has had to take. Bright Side of the Sun writes about his renewed love for the game.
Fadeaway World called last season one of his less efficient years, with 45.6% shooting and 33.0% from three, his worst three-point mark since 2018-19. Phoenix opened with a 124-83 loss at Portland, and Booker said after the opener that the second unit has better chemistry than the starters. Green, Brooks and Bridges can all score, so his shot share could be more contested than before. He also turns 30 soon and has had rest days, though I found no report tying that to a plan.
Where analysts split
Broad agreement on Booker's role and starting status. The open questions are around him. One is who starts at center (Maluach, Ighodaro or Williams). The other is whether the Green and Bridges additions raise his efficiency or take shots from him.
Research confidence: reported. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
