Adrian Kempe
Kempe is the Kings' top-line right wing and first power-play unit forward when healthy, but he sat out Saturday's game against Buffalo with an undisclosed injury, so his near-term status is the open question.
Role
When healthy he plays right wing on the top line with Artemi Panarin and Alex Laferriere. The Morning Puck's projection for the October 29 game (sourced to NHL.com) and 5v5 Hockey (as of Oct 27) both show that trio, and Frozen Pool's last-game table (Oct 26 vs. the Rangers) has them together. On the power play he was on PP1 with Panarin, Byfield, Laferriere and Erik Gustafsson in the October 27 and 29 listings. Daily Faceoff's page, fetched today and last updated Oct 31 (source: Zach Dooley), shows Martin Chromiak in Kempe's line-one spot and on PP1, with Kempe not on the forward lines. Chromiak made his NHL debut Saturday, per RotoWire. I did not retrieve ice time per game. Our data shows 249 total TOI over 12 GP and 3 PPP.
He is firmly on the top line and PP1 with Panarin and Laferriere, and that line has driven play. Frozen Pool's Oct 26 table shows 10 shots for and 3 against at 5v5 in about 11:40, and the PP1 unit scored in about 2:51 that game. The injury is listed day-to-day, not as an extended absence. RotoWire estimates a return of 11/4/2026, though that is its estimate and not a club statement. Chromiak has only AHL experience, per RotoWire, which suggests the spot is a placeholder.
The injury is undisclosed and I found no club update on its nature or timeline. RotoWire says he will miss at least one game. If he is out for several games, his line and PP1 spots go to someone else in the meantime. His totals (3 G, 5 A, 8 PTS in 12 GP) are modest for a top-line winger on PP1, and the Kings have used several line-one combinations this fall with Byfield, Kopitar and Zuccarello.
Where analysts split
The disagreement is about timing and not role: whether Kempe's absence is one game or several, and whether he steps straight back onto the Panarin line and PP1. I found no coach update after the Saturday absence. Preseason coverage floated moving Kempe to center, but current listings put him at right wing.
Injury: DTD: assessed minor
Day-to-day, undisclosed injury
Listed day-to-day with an undisclosed injury and an expected return of Nov. 4, suggesting a short-term absence of a game or two rather than a multi-week issue.
What would change this: Confirmation of practice status or a specified body part as Nov. 4 approaches
Research confidence: reported. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
