David Pastrnak

Consensus #8 · RW2 · tier 2Week 5: 3 gamesUpdated Nov 2

Pastrnak is the right wing on Boston's top line and first power-play unit, with no analyst debate about his role in the coverage I found.

Role

Beat-writer warmup lines posted Oct 24 (via GameDayLines, citing Fraser Bell) and the Inside the Rink preview for Nov 2 both had Peterka-Zacha-Pastrnak as line 1. 5V5 Hockey, which says it draws on Daily Faceoff pre-game reporting, listed the same trio as of Oct 27 and put him on PP1 with Geekie, Elias Lindholm, Zacha and McAvoy. The Morning Puck's page, indexed 6 days ago, also shows him on the power play. The same page showed him at 24:48 in one game, the most of any forward on it. That is one game, not an average. His line is the only one with a clear tie to the top power-play unit. Line 2 is Khusnutdinov-Minten-Geekie, and line 3 is Mittelstadt-E. Lindholm-Hagens. I did not read Daily Faceoff's live page, because the only version I found looked stale, so the power-play details come from the aggregator.

The case for

He plays with the same center, Zacha, and a new left wing, Peterka, on a line that has held together in recent pregame reports. He is on PP1 and gets heavy minutes. Boston has also been getting scoring from all four lines, which could keep opponents from focusing on his line.

The case against

His wingers have changed. Geekie-Zacha-Pastrnak appeared in Oct 13 warmups, and a beat-writer note had Minten skating with Pastrnak and Peterka. Last season he played only 15 games, so there is little recent sample to anchor on. The support around him is also unsettled. PP1 has shown different personnel across sources, and the power-play lineup beyond him has not been confirmed. I found no injury report for him dated after the wire report.
