Bo Horvat

Consensus #43 · C16 · tier 8Week 5: 2 gamesUpdated Nov 2

Horvat is the Islanders' first-line center and a first power-play unit regular. The one open item is the day-to-day wire note, which I could not tie to a specific injury or a return date.

Role

Daily Faceoff's line page (fetched Nov 2, last updated Oct 31) has him at center between Simon Holmstrom and Kyle Palmieri. It also has him on the first power-play unit with Palmieri, Brayden Schenn, Holmstrom and Matthew Schaefer. Inside the Rink's Oct 29 preview at Minnesota shows the same line and unit. Brayden Schenn centers line 2 with Emil Heineman and Victor Eklund, so he is not competing with Horvat for the top-line job. Horvat was on a penalty-kill unit in the Oct 25 and ESPN listings, but the fetched Daily Faceoff page lists Ondrej Palat, Casey Cizikas, Adam Pelech and Matthew Kessel on PK1, and the page text I read does not show him on either PK unit. Penalty-kill use is therefore unclear. ESPN's player page shows 21:01 of ice time per game over 14 games. A Rotowire note on CBS Sports from Oct 7 calls him first-line center at even strength and on the power play.

The case for

He holds the top-line and top power-play roles. He scored a power-play goal on three shots in the Oct 29 win over Minnesota, per Rotowire on CBS Sports (dated Oct 30). ESPN's spin credits him with seven points in his last six games. He plays about 21 minutes a night and also has hits and blocks. Power-play goals have come in several games this season.

The case against

The wire lists him day-to-day, and I found no practice report or coach's update explaining it, so a missed game is possible. A CBS Sports blurb refers to an injury he had earlier, but I could not date it or tie it to the current note. His scoring depends partly on the power play. His even-strength line of Holmstrom and Palmieri is not a high-profile scoring pairing. The Islanders were 6-4-2 after the Oct 29 game, according to Inside the Rink.

Where analysts split

broad agreement on role. The sources I found all show the same line and power-play unit. The only open question is the health of a day-to-day player, and I found no reporting on it.

Research confidence: reported. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
