Nick Suzuki
Suzuki is out for the near term: the Canadiens announced on Oct. 22 that he will miss two to four weeks with an upper-body injury, and no return date has been confirmed.
Role
When healthy, Suzuki centers the top line between Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkovsky. Yahoo (published about Oct. 23) has him averaging 21:47 a game, the most among Montreal forwards. The injury traces to Tuesday's game against San Jose, when he blocked a shot with his left hand, per Yardbarker. Without him, Caufield and Slafkovsky practiced with Oliver Kapanen at center (TSN, Oct. 22). Projected lineups for the Oct. 23 game in Chicago (Inside the Rink) and for the Oct. 25 Heritage Classic (NHL.com, Inside the Rink) show Kapanen centering them. Both list Suzuki as injured. The Oct. 23 projection also has Kapanen between Caufield and Slafkovsky on power-play unit 1 with Noah Dobson and Lane Hutson (Inside the Rink, 5v5 Hockey). The rest of the center group is Alex Newhook (line 2), Phillip Danault (line 3) and Jake Evans (line 4). Owen Beck was called up and was a scratch on Oct. 25 per NHL.com, though Inside the Rink's projection put him on the fourth line. I could not read a live Daily Faceoff page. The only copy that surfaced was a stale November 2025 snapshot, so I am not reporting it.
The injury is a blocked shot to the hand, not a long-term problem, and the team gave a short window of two to four weeks. He started this season with 5 goals and 12 points in 9 games, and he won the Selke last season after a career-high 101 points. His 21:47 a game suggests the coaching staff will give him the same top-line and power-play role once he is cleared. The list of Montreal forwards who could replace him is thin.
Even the short end of the window means he misses games, and the window runs to four weeks. The club has not said what exactly is hurt beyond "upper body" and has not confirmed a return date. This is his first injury absence after 546 straight games, so there is no history to judge how he comes back from a hand injury. The team has also had other forwards hurt, including Ivan Demidov. If Kapanen keeps the top-line center job and the first power-play unit while Suzuki is out, Suzuki could return to a role that has to be re-established.
Where analysts split
The coverage I found does not contain an analyst split. The open question is how quickly Suzuki returns within the two-to-four-week window, and whether Kapanen's stint at top-line and first-unit power-play center changes where Suzuki slots on return. Nothing I read addresses that second point.

Upper-body injury, out to Nov. 18
A nearly month-long absence for Montreal's top-line center and PP1 quarterback is a significant fantasy loss, not a day-to-day blip.
What would change this: Any update on practice participation or change to the Nov. 18 target return date
Research confidence: reported. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
