Bobby McMann

Consensus #174 · C56 · tier 10Week 5: 2 gamesUpdated Oct 26

McMann is a second-line left wing with first-unit power-play time, and Jared McCann's reported 10-week injured reserve stint should keep him in the top six for now.

Role

Daily Faceoff's Kraken page (fetched Oct 26, built from the Oct 24 game) has him at left wing on line 2 with Chandler Stephenson and Mackie Samoskevich, and on the 1st power-play unit with Jordan Eberle, Matty Beniers, Stephenson and Vince Dunn. Daily Faceoff does not list him on either penalty-kill unit, though FantasySP had him on PK2 earlier in the month. Frozen Pool's depth chart shows 16:35 average ice time and 2:07 of power-play time per game. Our data lists him as C, but Daily Faceoff and the other line pages list him at LW. His competition for top-six work is Samoskevich, Kaapo Kakko, Eberle and, per Frozen Pool's Oct 24 game lines, some shifts on the Eberle-Stephenson-Beniers combination. Daily Faceoff's McCann injury report (undated in my result, shown as 0 days ago) says Kakko moves up to the Beniers-Eberle line.

The case for

He has moved from a PP2 role in early October (5v5 Hockey, Oct 6; FantasySP) to the 1st unit on Daily Faceoff's current page. He plays 16-plus minutes at even strength alongside Stephenson, and McCann's absence reportedly leaves top-six spots open. Last season's line of 3 G, 5 PTS and 30 SOG in 12 GP, with 2 PPP, shows he shoots and gets power-play chances.

The case against

Frozen Pool's Oct 24 game log has the McMann, Stephenson and Samoskevich trio at 33.3 SF% and 31.6 CF% over 9:24 and a minus-2 goal differential, so the line is being outplayed. The Kraken have many forwards competing for the same top-six slots, and Daily Faceoff shows Kakko and Beniers on line 1 and Samoskevich on his wing. Beat reports on Oct 20 and Oct 24 show him on shifts with several combinations, so his spot is not locked. His sample is small: I have no current-season stat line from an official source.

Where analysts split

The open question is whether he holds the first power-play unit and second-line left wing once the lines settle, or drops back to PP2, as other trackers showed earlier in October. Daily Faceoff (Oct 24 game) has him on PP1. FantasySP, from about 20 days ago, and 5v5 Hockey, from Oct 6, had him on PP2. These are not same-day sources, so I cannot say whether the analysts truly disagree or the usage simply changed.
