Brayden Schenn
Brayden Schenn is a second-line center on the Islanders who also plays on the first power-play unit, and the tracker pages I read show that role holding through Oct. 31.
Role
Morning Puck's box-score page for the Oct. 31 game against Edmonton (fetched today) has Schenn at center on the third forward trio, between Casey Cizikas and Victor Eklund. He played 17:48 and was on the ice for 3:38 of power play, listed with Kyle Palmieri, Simon Holmstrom, Bo Horvat and Matthew Schaefer. Projected lines for Oct. 27 and Oct. 29 (Inside the Rink) had him at center between Emil Heineman and Eklund on line 2, on the first power-play unit with Palmieri, Horvat, Holmstrom and Schaefer. The Oilers Nation preview for the Oct. 31 game also listed Heineman-Schenn-Eklund. The Oct. 31 box score instead shows Cizikas on his left, so the left-wing slot has been changing. Horvat's line is ahead of him, and Jean-Gabriel Pageau centers the third line. Dobber's Frozen Tools data for Oct. 31 also shows Schenn on a power-play group with Palmieri, Horvat and Holmstrom. I have not read Daily Faceoff's page or any beat-writer piece from this week.
He is getting top-six minutes and first-unit power-play time. Inside the Rink, citing Box Score Junkie, put his Corsi-for at 54.7% this season with four goals on 3.2 expected, so the on-ice work supports the results. Oilers Nation named him among Islanders having strong starts to the season.
His left wing has not been stable, with Heineman in the projections and Cizikas in the Oct. 31 box score. His 17:48 that night was less than the top line's 20:29 for Horvat. The Oct. 31 box score shows no goals or assists from him. Last season's line had 8 points in 14 games with 2 power-play points, which is too small a sample to say much. The Oct. 29 write-up says he scored on his only shot in that game. The same write-up says his four goals came on 3.2 expected, so he may be slightly ahead of the chances. Heavy reliance on one finish would argue for caution.
Where analysts split
broad agreement. I found no analyst piece arguing over Schenn this season. The open question is only who plays on his left wing, and whether he stays on the first power-play unit.
Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
