Cole Perfetti
Perfetti is a top-line winger beside Mark Scheifele and has been on the first power-play unit in the most recent game I could read, though the other winger on that line has changed between games.
Role
Recent line reports have him on the top line with Scheifele. The Nov 1 projection at Carolina (Inside the Rink) was Perfetti-Scheifele-Vilardi, and Sportsnaut's preview (Nov 1) matched it. Oct 29 at Tampa Bay had Connor-Scheifele-Perfetti in The Hockey News and Yahoo's expected lines. Frozen Pool's last-game lines for Oct 29 show Scheifele-Vilardi-Perfetti at even strength for 11:57, and a first power-play unit of Scheifele, Connor, Vilardi and Perfetti for 2:49. Ship It Nation's Oct 29 page also had him on PP1. The Jets' first line at that game played only about 12 of the 50 minutes the table implies, so I would not read his ice time from that table. I have no season ice-time figure for him. Competition for the top-line wing work is Connor, Vilardi and, in one report, Dawson Mercer. Daily Faceoff's page was fetched but returned no line data, so I am not reporting what it lists. ESPN's page (about 14 days old) listed him at left wing on line one, and its power-play table put him in the defense slot. That table looks unreliable, so I am not relying on it. Last season he had 15 GP, 11 PTS and 5 PPP, but the season is too early to say how that carries over.
He has stayed on Scheifele's line through the preseason and the Oct 25, Oct 29 and Nov 1 projections, and he is on the first power-play unit with Scheifele, Connor and Vilardi. Last season he put up 11 points in 15 games, 5 of them on the power play, and 43 shots, a high volume for that many games. If Winnipeg's offense turns around, that line and power-play unit are where the points would come from.
The Jets' offense is struggling. Yahoo's Oct 29 preview mentioned a six-game losing streak and said Perfetti had one point in his last six games. The line has not held its shape: Connor, Vilardi and Mercer have all been put beside him, and one beat-writer report had a third-period reshuffle that put Perfetti with Barron and Mercer. Lines like that can be shuffled again if the losing continues. His power-play spot has also shifted between sources: ESPN's page lists him in the defense slot, and Ship It Nation's Oct 29 page had him on PP1 as a winger.
Where analysts split
I found no analyst argument about him, only lineup reports. The open question is not about opinion but about deployment: whether he keeps the top-line spot beside Scheifele, who plays the other wing (Connor or Vilardi), and whether he stays on PP1 if the team keeps losing.
Research confidence: reported. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
