Jonathan Marchessault
Marchessault is a third-line right wing who gets some power-play time, based on line-tracker pages. I found no analyst commentary on his season, so this comes from lineup data only.
Role
The Morning Puck page, which I fetched and which shows the October 31 game against Tampa Bay, had him at right wing on the third line with Alexander Kerfoot at center and Reid Schaefer on the left. His ice time that night was 15:19. The same page listed him on the power play with Forsberg, O'Reilly, Stamkos and Josi, for 2:06. A Frozen Tools page I fetched listed Marchessault-Kerfoot-Schaefer as that game's third-most-used even-strength trio. It showed him in a four-forward power-play group with Stamkos, O'Reilly and Forsberg. ESPN's line page, seen only in search results and not fetched, showed him on the third line and on PP1. Per the Frozen Tools newsfeed I fetched, Nashville traded Matthew Wood to Seattle for Shane Wright on Sunday, Nov 1. That could shift the lines. The Morning Puck page I read still showed Wood on the fourth line. I have not seen lines from after the trade. ESPN listed Wright at center on its third line, but I did not fetch that page and cannot say how current it is. Practice-line tweets from earlier in the season, of unclear date, had him with Colton and Bourque or with Forsberg. That points to a role that has moved around.
He holds a power-play spot, and the tracker pages showed him there on October 31. Even from the third line he gets real minutes (15:19) and shots (four that night). His line also produced a goal in the Tampa game, per the Frozen Tools page. The 5 power-play points in 14 games last season show how much of his production runs through that unit.
He sits on the third line rather than the top six, and the tracker pages I read show his linemates changing from game to game. Last season's line (14 GP, 2 G, 3 A, 5 PTS, a -6 rating) is a small sample and a weak one. He is 35. Anyone adding a Wright-for-Wood trade to the mix, and any lineup reshuffle that follows it, makes his current spot less certain.
Where analysts split
No analyst disagreement found. I found no articles or columns on his season, only line trackers and tweet aggregators, so I cannot describe a debate. The open question the lineup data raises is whether the power-play slot and the third-line spot hold after the Wood-for-Wright trade.
Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
