Logan Stankoven
Stankoven is Carolina's second-line center, with second power-play and second penalty-kill time, and the current line pages show nothing that threatens that.
Role
Daily Faceoff's line page (fetched Oct 25; source is the Oct 24 game at St. Louis) has him between Nikolaj Ehlers and Jackson Blake on the second line, behind Sebastian Aho's line. He is on the second power-play unit with Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Seth Jarvis, and on the second penalty-kill unit with Jordan Martinook. Blake is on the first power play and Stankoven is not. Dobber's Frozen Pool Oct 22 Edmonton game shows Ehlers-Stankoven-Blake for 12:25 of even-strength time, with short stints beside Kotkaniemi and Jarvis. I found no per-game ice-time figure for this season. His competition for the center job is Kotkaniemi, who is on the third line (Daily Faceoff, Oct 24 game) and is Stankoven's partner on the second power play.
He holds a middle-six center job on a line that has been strong. Carolina's Stanley Cup Final run last spring featured Stankoven between Taylor Hall and Blake, and NHL.com described that line as the team's best. He is trusted on both special teams, with second-unit power-play and penalty-kill minutes on top of even-strength time. His 8 goals in 13 games last season (supplied data) fit that scoring profile. The Edmonton game on Oct 22 gave that line a 7-4 shot edge and a goal at even strength.
He is not on the first power-play unit, which Daily Faceoff lists as Svechnikov, Aho, Blake, Ehlers and Gostisbehere, so his power-play minutes depend on a second unit. His linemates have changed this season: Nadeau-Stankoven-Blake on Oct 16 (@RyanHenkel_ via GameDayLines), Hall-Stankoven-Blake in early October, and Ehlers-Stankoven-Blake in the most recent reporting. The line is therefore less settled than a fixed unit would be. Last season's supplied line also shows only 2 power-play points and 228 minutes of ice time in 13 games, a small sample.
Where analysts split
broad agreement. I found no analyst or beat-writer commentary arguing about his role. The only inconsistency is between line sources: 5v5 Hockey (Oct 20) showed Unger Sorum and Nadeau on the second power play with Stankoven, while Daily Faceoff's page (Oct 25) shows Kotkaniemi and Jarvis. The second line's wingers have also rotated.
Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
