Mika Zibanejad

Consensus #89 · C32 · tier 10Week 5: 3 gamesUpdated Nov 2

Zibanejad is the Rangers' first-line center and a power-play regular, but I found no analyst debate about him, only line reports that moved his wingers around.

Role

The Oilers Nation game preview (published around the Nov. 1 game against Edmonton) lists Dorofeyev-Zibanejad-Lafrenière as the top line. Forever Blueshirts' projected lines, dated today, match that. Frozen Tools' last-game page, dated Nov. 1, shows that trio together for 8:24 at even strength, with a 65.0 CF% in that stretch. ESPN's line page, about two weeks old, has him on PP1 with Miller and Lafrenière, and Fox and Dorofeyev on the other half of that unit. Puckfeed's early-October numbers cover only his last five games: 15:06 at 5v5, 3:10 on the power play and 1:23 on the penalty kill. Early-season reports had Perreault on his left wing with Lafrenière on the right. J.T. Miller centers the second line (ESPN, Forever Blueshirts). Noah Laba is the third-line center. Daily Faceoff's page returned no readable lines when I fetched it, and it was stamped January 2026, so I am not relying on it.

The case for

He sits on the top line and the first power-play unit, which is where his production comes from. Blueshirt Banter's preview says he led the Rangers in goals, points, power-play goals (16) and power-play points (35) in the prior full season, and that his results held up across his three most common line combinations. Puckfeed shows 5 points in his first 5 games this season. Last season's line (15 games, 12 points) is too short a sample to judge from.

The case against

He is 33, and last season's data shows 15 games played, 12 points and a -4 rating. Blueshirt Banter rated his defense at the 43rd percentile. His wingers have rotated between Perreault and Dorofeyev, so his line is not settled. His power-play production depends on one unit that has Fox, Miller, Lafrenière and Dorofeyev around him. If that unit is reshuffled, his output could drop.

Where analysts split

Broad agreement on his role: top-line center and PP1. The open question is who plays his left wing. Early October reports had Perreault there, and the Nov. 1 game and the Oilers Nation preview had Dorofeyev. I found no analyst piece arguing about Zibanejad himself.
