Mikael Granlund
Granlund is a second-line center on a top-six power-play unit for Anaheim, and the latest practice lines have him in that spot.
Role
Practice lines on 10/31, from the Silver Seven Sens game hub quoting the Ducks' beat writers, had Gauthier-Granlund-Sennecke as the second line behind Killorn-Carlsson-Caulfield. Zach Cavanagh's 10/28 practice lines had Malott-Granlund-Sennecke, so his left wing has rotated (Vatrano, Nesterenko, Malott and Gauthier have all been listed there at various points). The Inside the Rink 10/27 preview and Cavanagh's power-play tweets have him on PP1 with Carlsson, Gauthier, Sennecke and LaCombe. The same Silver Seven piece says that unit is carrying a power play ranked sixth. ESPN's depth page, indexed about 12 days ago and not fetched, also lists him on the penalty kill, but I have not confirmed that is current. Ice time is not in what I found. I did not fetch Daily Faceoff or read the Ducks' line page directly.
He sits on a power-play unit that has produced early, and Carlsson, Gauthier and Sennecke are the other forwards on it. A Dobber last-game table in the results (dated 10/29, the Buffalo game) showed that group on the ice for three goals for and none against in 4:10. He also keeps a second-line center job on a team that, per the same hub, is expected to step forward.
His even-strength wingers keep changing. In the 10/29 Frozen Tools table he skated with Malott and Sennecke, a line that was out-chanced and was on for two goals against. He also missed time with an upper-body injury in mid-October, and Inside the Rink had him day-to-day on 10/19. Anaheim went 5-7-1 in October and is giving up goals, and Troy Terry and Ryan Poehling are on injured reserve, so the forward group could change when they return. His age is 34, and last season's line was 13 games, so the sample is small.
Where analysts split
I found no analyst argument about him specifically. The open question is not about opinion but about lineup: who plays on his wings, and whether he keeps the PP1 spot as the forward group changes. Sources disagree on his left winger (Gauthier on 10/31, Malott on 10/28, Nesterenko on 10/24), and ESPN's page had Gauthier on the second line. The ESPN page is old, so I would not lean on it.
