Owen Tippett
Tippett is an injured-reserve top-six winger with no reported return date, and the Flyers have been playing without him while they sit 3-7-3.
Role
He is not in the lineup now. The Northeast Times (26 October), citing Daily Faceoff, lists the forward lines without him: Bump-Couturier-Foerster, Zegras-Dvorak-Acciari, Martone-Cates-Michkov. The first power-play unit is Martone, Barkey, Michkov, Zegras and Drysdale, and the second is Foerster, Dvorak, Bump, Sanheim and Bonk. Yahoo (about 22 October) called him a top-six winger. He played 15:36 on 15 October against Detroit, which PhillyHockeyNow said was about the average for the team's top-9 forwards. I did not fetch Daily Faceoff's page itself, so I have not read his listed slot or power-play spot there. Travis Konecny is also on injured reserve and is the other winger the team could activate. Alex Bump, Tyson Foerster and Porter Martone are the wingers filling the minutes now.
The injury is described as upper body, and coach Rick Tocchet said it is unrelated to the sports hernia and internal bleeding he dealt with in the playoffs. The hernia was surgically repaired in the offseason, and GM Danny Briere said the bleeding was cleared. The injured-reserve move was retroactive to 15 October, so the seven-day minimum has passed, and Philadelphia waived Garrett Wilson to open a roster spot. Yahoo read that as the club preparing to activate Konecny or Tippett. When healthy he brings the speed and transition chances that The Hockey Writers calls important to the attack.
No return date has been given. CBS and ESPN both said it is unclear when he will be available. The Hockey Writers listed him as a key absence heading into the last week of October. The lineup has settled without him: Martone and Michkov are on the first power-play unit, and Bump and Foerster are on the second. Tocchet has not said when the injury happened or how severe it is. He also has a short record this season: 1 goal and 1 assist in 9 games, with 21 shots on goal.
Where analysts split
Broad agreement on the facts. I found no analysts arguing over him. The open question is when he returns and whether he gets back a top-six slot and a power-play spot, and no source I found has addressed it.
Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
