Pavel Zacha

Consensus #141 · C48 · tier 10Week 5: 3 gamesUpdated Nov 2

Zacha is the Bruins' first-line center and first power-play regular in the projections I found, so his role is secure when he plays. The open question is the upper-body issue that has him a game-time decision, and I found no update on it past the wire note.

Role

Projected lines dated 1 to 2 November (Boston Hockey Now, Inside the Rink) have him centering JJ Peterka and David Pastrnak on line 1. Inside the Rink lists him on the first power-play unit with Geekie, Elias Lindholm, Pastrnak and McAvoy. Ship It Nation's page for the 29 October game also shows him on PP1, with Lindholm listed first, alongside Pastrnak. Fraser Minten is the second-line center and has filled in on the first line when Zacha was out. Boston Hockey Now logged Zacha as a healthy scratch on Oct. 17, with Minten moving up to first-line center. He came back in on Oct. 20. No source I found gave his current ice time. The Morning Puck's box shows line-1 center time of 22:12 in one game, but the page does not say which game. Daily Faceoff's line page loaded as a stale July 2025 offseason snapshot, so I am not citing it.

The case for

He is back on a line with Pastrnak, and the Boston Globe (Oct. 7) quoted him saying they know where each other is on the ice. The same piece said he was creating chances without a point at that stage. He also holds a PP1 spot, and last season's 5 power-play points in 14 games came with 24 shots on goal. If he is cleared, the first-line and PP1 role is his.

The case against

He is hurt, and the wire note lists him as a game-time decision. Coach Marco Sturm has been reshuffling the top lines because the offense has struggled to score (Globe, Oct. 7). Zacha has also been scratched once this season, and Minten is a ready replacement at first-line center. Sources disagree on who anchors PP1, so his power-play share is not fixed.

Where analysts split

The split is over how long the upper-body issue lasts and who takes the first-line center spot if he sits. Minten is the known fill-in. A secondary question is whether Zacha or Elias Lindholm runs the first power-play unit. Ship It Nation lists Lindholm first on PP1, and Inside the Rink lists Zacha among the five. I found no injury update past the wire note.
