Robert Thomas

Consensus #154 · C53 · tier 10Week 5: 3 gamesUpdated Nov 2

Robert Thomas is the Blues' No. 1 center in the line charts I could read, but I found no beat-writer or analyst commentary, so this describes usage only and not any debate.

Role

ESPN's Blues line-combo page (fetched 2 November, undated on the page) lists him as first-line center between Jake Neighbours and Jimmy Snuggerud. The same page puts him on the first power-play unit with Neighbours and Snuggerud, and on the first penalty-kill pair with Connor McMichael. Mason McTavish centers the second line. Dobber's Frozen Tools depth chart (search snippet, undated) shows 20:07 per game, 2:36 of it on the power play, over 12 games. That is a snippet of a page that says it shows last year's stats early in the season, so treat the figures as unverified. The wingers have been shifting. The Dobber snippet for the Oct. 31 game against Detroit shows Thomas mostly with Neighbours and Snuggerud, with a stretch beside Dylan Holloway. The Oct. 27 snippet shows Holloway and Snuggerud as his wingers. Morning Puck and 5v5 Hockey, both about a week or two old, had Holloway on his left. The Blues' top-line left wing is therefore not settled. Last season he played 14 GP with 10 PTS (3 PPP), a small sample.

The case for

He sits at the top of every chart I read: first-line center, first power-play unit on ESPN, and penalty-kill minutes. His 20:07 per game is the number to watch, with the caveat above. McTavish is on the second line and Dalibor Dvorsky on the third, so no other center is shown pushing him down.

The case against

Last season he played only 14 GP, so his production and availability are a small sample. His power-play role looks unsettled across sources: one search snippet from ESPN, about 10 days old, had him on PP2 with Holloway and Jonatan Berggren, while the page I fetched has him on PP1. His wingers have also changed from game to game, so his linemates are not fixed.

Where analysts split

No analyst disagreement found. The only visible variation is in the aggregator pages: who skates at left wing beside him (Neighbours or Holloway), and whether he is on PP1 or PP2. I found no beat-writer or Athletic coverage to say which will stick.

Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
