Roope Hintz
Hintz is a second-line forward who plays on the first power play, and his current day-to-day status is the main open question. I found no beat-writer or Daily Faceoff analysis of his season.
Role
The Morning Puck page (fetched Nov 2) shows the Oct 31 game vs. Columbus with Hintz on the second line at right wing. His linemates were Jason Robertson on left wing and Tyler Seguin at center, and he played 16:55 with no shots. Wyatt Johnston centered the top line there, though that page also shows Sam Steel at center and Johnston on the right wing, between Rantanen and Johnston. A Morning Puck listing, which cites NHL.com, puts Hintz on the first power-play group with Robertson, Rantanen, Heiskanen and Johnston. A 5v5 Hockey page and a FantasySP page show the same group. I did not read those two pages directly, only their search snippets. Frozen Pool's Oct 27 lines (search snippet) also have Hintz with Robertson and Seguin. Benn and Hyry are among the other forwards on the depth lines, and Johnston and Rantanen hold the top-line work. A CBS note I saw only as a snippet said Hintz was hurt late in a Saturday win with no update and was day-to-day, but it carries no date I can confirm. I have no coach or practice update later than the day-to-day note we already hold. Last season he played 14 games, with 10 points, 26 shots and 1 power-play point.
He is still on the first power-play unit with Rantanen, Heiskanen, Robertson and Johnston. He also plays with Robertson at even strength, and he centered the top line earlier this season. Optimists see a proven goal-scorer who played 14 games last season for 10 points and 26 shots, and who is surrounded by top talent. A February 2025 Daily Faceoff piece noted he had averaged over 70 points a season over the three prior years. That figure is older and I could not tie it to this season.
He has moved from the top line to the second line, and the Oct 31 box shows him at right wing with 16:55 of ice time, below the top-line forwards. He has a recent injury history, and the 2025-26 season ended early with a torn hamstring (Fox Sports snippet), so durability is a real worry. The current day-to-day note adds near-term risk. Last season's sample was only 14 games.
Where analysts split
I found no analyst debate on him this season. The reporting I read lists lines but offers no argument. The open question is not an analyst split: it is whether he stays on the second line or returns to the top line, and whether the day-to-day issue costs him games. Neither is settled in what I read.
Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
