Sebastian Aho
Aho is Carolina's top-line center, on the first power-play unit and the first penalty kill, and the coverage I found has no sign of that changing.
Role
Daily Faceoff's line page (fetched 2 November, last updated 1 November, sourced to the club's projected lineup for the Winnipeg game) has Aho centering William Carrier and Andrei Svechnikov. It also lists him on the first power-play unit with Svechnikov, Jackson Blake, Nikolaj Ehlers and Shayne Gostisbehere, and on the first penalty kill with Eric Robinson, Jaccob Slavin and Jalen Chatfield. Inside The Rink's 29 October preview showed the same line and units. The Morning Puck's line page, indexed 11 days ago, showed him at 21:16 of ice time in the game it covered and 3:14 on the power play. Stankoven, Ehlers and Blake form the second line, and Kotkaniemi, Jankowski, Jarvis, Stankoven and Valimaki make up the second power-play unit. I found no source that names a rival for his center job or his power-play spot.
He is used in every situation: top line, first power play, first penalty kill. 5v5 Hockey, as of 29 October, had him leading the team with 19 points (8 G, 11 A) in 14 GP. Inside The Rink, citing Box Score Junkie, reported a 66.4% Corsi-for and 79.0 shot attempts for per 60 with him on the ice. It also noted that he scored on five shots in his last outing. Last season he had 21 points in 16 GP with 7 power-play points and 3 shorthanded points, so the special-teams role is not new.
Inside The Rink noted he has eight goals on 6.4 expected, so some of the scoring is running ahead of the chances. His wingers have shifted from game to game: Ehlers skated with him and Svechnikov in the 13 October Washington game, and Carrier is the left wing now. Carrier's 12:58 of ice time in the game The Morning Puck covered suggests that left-wing slot is not a heavy-minutes role. Carolina's scoring is also spread across lines, with Necas listed second in the 5v5 Hockey team scoring table and Blake third.
Where analysts split
broad agreement. I found no analyst or beat-writer argument about his role this season. The only open question is who plays left wing on his line, and that has not been settled in the coverage I read.
