Steven Stamkos

Consensus #59 · C20 · tier 9Week 5: 3 gamesUpdated Nov 2

Stamkos is a top-line, first power-play-unit scorer for Nashville and has produced at that level through the first 14 games, though no analyst I found questions the role.

Role

Beat-writer lines on gamedaytweets.com (Oct 31, 2026, from @brooksbratten's warmup report) had him centering Ryan O'Reilly and Mavrik Bourque on the first line. Practice lines on Oct 12 had him between O'Reilly and Jonathan Marchessault. The linemates have rotated, so the left-wing and right-wing spots are not fixed. The Morning Puck page (indexed 11 days ago) lists the power play as Forsberg, O'Reilly, Stamkos, Josi and Wood, with Skjei and Bourque also named. I could not fetch Daily Faceoff's page, so I cannot say what it shows now. The Morning Puck page showed 16:18 of ice time in one game. ESPN lists 19:01 per game in losses. I found no season-long average. Wing mates and the second unit are the places other forwards could take work from him, but nothing I read says anyone is.

The case for

Stamkos scored a regulation goal and the shootout winner on Oct 31 against Tampa Bay. CBS Sports and ESPN both describe a strong start to 2026-27. By their count he has eight goals, eight assists, nine power-play points and 33 shots in 14 games, which matches the line we hold. His power-play goals have kept coming, including one on Oct 4. He is a first-unit shooter, and the 246th career power-play goal tied him with Phil Esposito for sixth all-time.

The case against

He is 36, and that scoring rate leans heavily on the power play: nine of his 16 points came there. Our data shows a minus-4 rating and only 8 hits and 5 blocks, so he adds little outside scoring. His even-strength linemates have changed from game to game, and the team's results have been uneven. ESPN shows him with a 19:01 average in losses. A cold power play or a lineup shake-up would cut into his production.
