Tom Wilson

Consensus #83 · RW17 · tier 8Week 5: 2 gamesUpdated Nov 2

Tom Wilson is a top-line right wing for Washington this season, and he also appears on a first power-play unit in the line pages I found.

Role

The Morning Puck's box score page for the Nov. 1 game against Minnesota (fetched today) had him on the top line at right wing, with Aliaksei Protas on left wing and Pierre-Luc Dubois at center. He played 18:01 in that game, the most among Washington's forwards in the table I read apart from Tuch and Strome, who played 18:15 and 18:28. Dobber's Frozen Tools last-game page, as indexed for the Oct. 29 Nashville game, showed the same Wilson-Dubois-Protas trio as his main five-on-five combination, with some shifts beside Strome, Kyrou and Ovechkin. I could not read that page's current table. The second line in the Nov. 1 table was Tuch-Strome-Kyrou. On the power play, 5v5hockey's page, dated Oct. 20, listed PP1 as Wilson, Strome, Leonard, Ovechkin and Chychrun. The Morning Puck's power-play list, which I read in a search snippet from about Oct. 16, also includes Wilson, but it shows no unit breakdown. I did not fetch Daily Faceoff, so I have no current read on whether the power-play unit has changed since Oct. 20. The Nov. 1 table does not show power-play time.

The case for

He is on the top line at right wing, is listed on the first power-play unit by the sources above, and led the club in scoring in the first half of last season. That second claim comes from DC Backcheck game-day posts dated about November through December 2025. That points to a steady role with top-line minutes and power-play time, plus the hits, shots and penalty minutes his game already produces. His 28 shots in 13 games last season were a normal rate for him.

The case against

Last season he played only 13 games and scored 5 points with no power-play points. Our data does not say why, and I did not find out. The Nov. 1 box score showed the top line with no goals or assists, and Wilson with two shots. His linemates have changed often: past lineup pages in the results show him with Protas and Dubois, with Protas and Strome, and with McMichael and Sourdif. Another lineup page, also from about Oct. 20, put him on a second line with Protas and Jenner. His spot beside Dubois is therefore not fixed.

Where analysts split

I found no analyst piece arguing over Wilson this season, only line and usage pages. The open question is who centers him: Dubois in the Oct. 29 and Nov. 1 games, versus the Jenner pairing on the Oct. 20 page. I can't say which one holds, because I found no analysis weighing them.

Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
