Tyson Foerster
Foerster is a third-line right winger with some second-unit power-play time, and he is working back from a hand injury that cost him one game; his scoring has been thin this season.
Role
The Frozen Pool snippet for the Oct. 24 Anaheim game (from a search result, not a live page I could read) showed him mostly between Sean Couturier and Alex Bump, with some shifts beside Christian Dvorak and Bump. ESPN's line page (indexed about five days ago, not read live) lists Bump-Couturier-Foerster as the third line and Bump-Dvorak-Foerster on power-play unit two. The Morning Puck's page (indexed about seven days ago) also has him on the third line. The Oct. 21 Rotowire/CBS item had him slated to play with Couturier and Bump, and NHL.com said he rotated in on the top line at that morning skate. Earlier in October he had been on unit one and the second penalty-kill unit, and in the opening-night lines he was beside Dvorak or Cates. Usage has changed from week to week. The Flyers also have injuries to Konecny, Tippett, Grebenkin and others, which affects who is available around him. The latest wire report is a game-time decision for Buffalo on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Later items say he was expected to play. I found no update on the hand after that.
Broad Street Hockey's preseason read called him the Flyers' best two-way winger, able to play anywhere in the top nine. He was also trusted with penalty-kill and power-play time, and the Flyers keep rotating him up. With several wingers hurt, he could get top-six minutes, and he is an easy candidate for production to rise from a one-goal start. Rotowire had noted hope he could return to roughly 40-point production. That is their framing, not a number I verified.
He had one goal in 10 games and a six-game pointless streak as of Rotowire's Oct. 21 note. Last season he played just 12 games for 2 points, so there is little recent production to lean on. His even-strength spot has dropped to a third line beside Couturier and Bump, and his power-play role looks to have slipped to the second unit. A shot blocked off his shooting hand was the injury, and no source I found says how well that hand has healed.
Where analysts split
The open question is whether he holds a spot in the top six and on power-play unit one, or stays on the third line and the second unit. Listings I found disagree. Inside the Rink's Oct. 19 preview had him on line one and power-play unit one, while ESPN and the Morning Puck list him third line, and ESPN lists him on unit two. These come from different dates and sites, and I did not read a live Daily Faceoff page.
