Anthony Davis

Consensus #52 · C16 · tier 4Week 3: 4 gamesUpdated Nov 2

Davis is the Wizards' clear first option, and through six regular-season games he has played about 33 minutes a night without missing one.

Role

Through six games he is averaging 22.3 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.0 block in 33.3 minutes (Wiz of Awes, about 31 Oct to 1 Nov). Individual games ran 31 to 35 minutes. Washington has used him at power forward a lot, and RotoWire says he has also brought the ball up as a point-center when Trae Young sits. RotoWire also flagged a possible dip in minutes on the second night of a back-to-back. Young and Kyshawn George are the other main scorers named in coverage. I did not find a starting-lineup source, so his starter status is unconfirmed, though the volume strongly suggests a heavy role. The wire note about a rest day refers to a preseason game, and I could not reconcile it with the regular season already being six games old. Treat it as stale.

The case for

He led the team in rebounds, shots and scoring in his debut with 34 points and 12 rebounds, and he has recorded a steal in all six games. He has scored 20 or more three times, including 25 points and 13 rebounds against Charlotte. He is also making about one three per game, which Wiz of Awes says he has not done since 2020. Optimists say he is the only dependable offensive engine on a thin roster, so the volume is secure.

The case against

He is 33, and he last played before this season when he hurt his left hand in January and was shut down after the trade. Coverage says he is shooting well below his career field goal percentage (52.2). His 18-point and 9-point games on 3-of-12 and 8-of-18 shooting show the efficiency can swing. Skeptics also point to a supporting cast that cannot help him. Wiz of Awes says the offense stalls into Davis isolations. A reported extension decision after roughly 20 games also puts his long-term situation in question, and a poor Washington start could invite trade talk.

Where analysts split

Analysts agree on his role and volume. The open question is durability and team context: whether he keeps playing about 33 minutes a night without rest or injury interruptions, and whether Washington stays competitive enough to keep him there, given the extension and trade questions. I did not find a named analyst disputing his per-game role.
