Cameron Boozer

Consensus #23 · C9 · tier 4Week 3: 3 gamesUpdated Oct 26

Boozer is a rookie starting power forward for Memphis. Through two regular-season games he has been a high-minute rebounding and playmaking hub whose shooting has been inconsistent.

Role

Per Fox Sports, he opened the season as Memphis' starting power forward. ESPN's game log (checked 26 October) shows 33 minutes in the Oct. 21 opener against Utah and 37 minutes at Golden State on Oct. 23. Both were team highs or near it, and the Utah figure was the most of any Memphis player. Over those two games he averaged 16.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists on 28.6% shooting. Last night's win included four threes and 9-of-9 from the line. Zach Edey is Memphis' center. I did not find a published minutes cap, a back-to-back plan, or a usage-rate figure. I also did not read a rotation tracker page, so who competes for his minutes beyond Edey is not confirmed.

The case for

He is the third overall pick and was the 2026 national college player of the year. Early coverage describes a player already central to the offense, who rebounds, passes out of the post, and defends well enough that coach Tuomas Iisalo praised his work on Lauri Markkanen. Memphis outscored Utah by 32 points in his minutes after he shot 2-of-15, and CBS says the double-doubles are likely to keep coming. In the second game he made the go-ahead jumper with 20 seconds left, and Fox Sports calls him an early Rookie of the Year favorite.

The case against

The sample is only two games, and his efficiency is poor: 28.6% from the field, including 2-of-15 in the debut. He had six turnovers at Golden State. The 33 and 37 minutes are heavy for a 19-year-old. Iisalo said he shows no sign of fatigue but added that the team has to be smart about it. That leaves room for minute management or a fatigue dip over an 82-game season.

Where analysts split

Broad agreement on his role and talent. The only open question I found is whether his shooting efficiency settles and whether Memphis keeps him near 33 to 37 minutes. Iisalo's fatigue comment is the only hint of caution, and I found no analyst taking a firm side.
