Bogdan Bogdanović
Bogdanović arrives in Houston on a one-year free agent deal after the Clippers declined his $16 million option, and camp reporting frames him purely as a veteran bench shooter trying to prove his legs are back after an injury wrecked year.
Role
No exhibition games have been played yet as of the check date (5 October 2026); Houston's first preseason game with him available is Dallas at Houston on 9 October 2026, per Sofascore's schedule page. What exists so far is training camp work: at camp practice reported on 3 October 2026, Kevin Durant praised Bogdanović's work ethic, and a Yahoo Sports piece from the same camp reporting (3 October 2026) said head coach Ime Udoka 'appears poised to play both of those veteran guards in his initial rotation (albeit off the bench),' pairing him with fellow offseason signee Marcus Smart. Rockets GM Rafael Stone, speaking about 23 days before the check date, said the team wanted more shooting and skill and called Bogdanović 'like a truly great shooter, an all-time great' in that specific regard, suggesting a floor-spacing bench role alongside Kevin Durant and Alperen Şengün rather than a starting job. He also switched to jersey number 31 at Preseason Media Day, per a report roughly 11 days before the check date.
He is a career 38%+ three-point shooter being brought in specifically to fix a Houston offense that struggled with spacing and ball movement last season, and Durant's early camp praise for his conditioning and work ethic is read as a sign he looks healthy again after the injuries that limited him.
He appeared in only 23 games last season because of recurring lower-body injuries, he is 34, and every current report, including the GM's own comments, frames him as bench depth behind Durant rather than someone guaranteed a set rotation spot, with Smart, Reed Sheppard and Fred VanVleet all competing for backcourt minutes.
Where analysts split
There is no real analyst split being reported yet. Coverage uniformly treats him as a veteran bench shooter on a prove-it deal; the open question flagged in current reporting is simply whether he stays healthy and earns consistent bench minutes behind Durant and alongside Smart, not a disagreement about his role.
