Brook Lopez
A 38-year-old stretch center who is expected to be the backup behind Isaiah Jackson, with a role of roughly 16 to 22 minutes that could change if the Clippers trade him.
Role
Fox Sports (undated, near the end of preseason) says he is expected to open as the No. 2 center behind Isaiah Jackson. RotoWire projects about 16 to 22 minutes most nights. CraftedNBA's depth chart, seen only as a search snippet and not fetched, shows Jackson starting at 25 minutes and Lopez backing up at 16. His one regular-season game I found, on October 22, came off the bench: 17 points and 11 rebounds in 27 minutes against Sacramento. Derrick Jones Jr. shows as the third center on that chart, which I did not verify. I did not find his back-to-back handling or any rest plan. Our supplied last-season line shows 3 GP, but the coverage I found has him in 75 games in 2025-26, so I used none of those totals.
He rebounds well and can shoot threes, so RotoWire expects steady minutes whether he starts or comes off the bench. RotoWire's optimists point to his 20 games last season with 25 to 32 minutes, when he averaged 17.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists. The 27-minute double-double on October 22 fits that case.
RotoWire says he is 38 and does not fit the Clippers' rebuilding timeline, so a trade can't be ruled out. Jackson fits the franchise's new timeline and is the projected starter. Fox's report that his preseason workload was light, 15 minutes in one game, supports a capped role. He started 40 of 75 games in 2025-26 but averaged only 21.8 minutes.
Where analysts split
Whether he starts or backs up Jackson, and how many minutes that means. Fox and CraftedNBA have him as the backup, and RotoWire says he may come off the bench. One RotoWire blurb read as if he might open as the starter, but I could not confirm that. A second question is whether the Clippers trade him.
