Caleb Wilson
Wilson, the No. 4 pick, is Chicago's featured rookie and has been the team's top option through six games, with high volume and poor efficiency so far.
Role
Basketball-Reference (checked Nov 2) shows 6 starts in 6 games and 205 total minutes, about 34 per game. The recent box scores (NBA.com) show 31 to 38 minutes a night. Yahoo reports the Bulls have "all but handed the car keys" to him. Yahoo's preseason review had him handling the ball more than expected. He has led the team in scoring in at least one loss, 30 points and 14 rebounds vs. Washington. I found no named competitor for his minutes or shots, and no report of back-to-back rest plans. Neither has been confirmed.
Usage and counting stats are strong. He scored 30 with 14 rebounds in one game, and Basketball-Reference's per-36 line has 22.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.6 blocks. He has defensive playmaking (nine steals in his first five games per CBS/Rotowire), passes well from the frontcourt, and had a 6-for-11 three-point game vs. Boston on Oct 30. The team is building around him and lets him make mistakes.
The efficiency is poor: .417 FG and .298 from three per 36 on 8.3 attempts. Turnovers run about 3.0 per 36 and fouls 3.3. Yahoo noted he struggled to read passing lanes in the preseason. Chicago is losing badly (a 135-92 loss to Toronto, a 134-99 loss to Boston), so the heavy workload comes on a weak team. Wikipedia notes a record-low -45 plus/minus in his debut.
Where analysts split
broad agreement on the role. The coverage I found does not stage a real debate. The only open question is whether his shooting efficiency and turnovers improve as volume stays high. No analyst split on that was found.
