Jaren Jackson Jr.
Jackson is a core frontcourt piece for Utah alongside Lauri Markkanen, off to a productive start through two games, with foul trouble and his health history as the main risks.
Role
Two games in, ESPN's game log (checked around Oct 25) has him at 30.5 minutes per game: 28 at Memphis on Oct 21 and 33 against New Orleans on Oct 23. Preseason outings ran 16 to 21 minutes, and KSL notes he played no second halves in preseason, so those figures don't predict regular-season use. Walker Kessler is now with the Clippers or another Los Angeles team, and Rotowire (Sep 2026, citing ESPN's Tim MacMahon) says that makes Jackson even more essential. Markkanen is the other top scorer, and rookie Darryn Peterson is also on the roster. I did not find a confirmed starting five or a named backup center, so I can't say who competes for his minutes. SI argued before the season that he could start at center, but I did not find confirmation of his actual starting position.
He opened with 24 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks in 33 minutes against the Pelicans, and he had multiple blocks in both of the first two games. Fox Sports notes he is chasing 2.0 or more blocks per game for the first time since 2022-23. In his three games for Utah last season he averaged 22.3 points and 2.0 steals in 24 minutes, and the Jazz see a long-term frontcourt pairing with Markkanen. With Kessler gone, optimists expect a larger and more central role on a team that has had the league's worst defense.
Availability and fouls. He played 48 regular-season games last season and had surgery on a growth in his left knee after only 3 games with Utah. KSL's early-season count was one foul per 4.25 minutes, which would foul him out in about 25.5 minutes, and he ranks third among active players in fouls per 36 minutes. He had 5 fouls over his first two games per ESPN's splits, and 6 in the Oct 21 game. Last season's 285 minutes over 3 games is also a tiny sample. Utah also faced criticism earlier for sitting him and Markkanen in fourth quarters while protecting a draft pick.
Where analysts split
The open question is how many minutes he can hold: whether his fouls drop enough to keep him near 30-plus minutes a night, and whether Utah manages his workload and closes games with him. I did not find a named analyst split on this.

Torn right MCL, out 6-8 weeks
This is a confirmed structural knee injury with a specific 6-to-8 week timeline and a return date of Dec. 14, so he is a definite drop or stash-only for the next several weeks of fantasy play.
What would change this: Any update on healing progress or a revised return timeline closer to December.
Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
