Joan Beringer
Beringer is Rudy Gobert's backup center in Minnesota and has a real but unsettled rotation role, with minutes that Finch says depend on how he plays.
Role
He is coming off the bench behind Gobert, and Rotowire reported on October 21 that he would not start the opener. Through five games he averaged 15.6 minutes, 6.8 points and 7.6 rebounds on 68.2% shooting, per a Minnesota Sports Fan piece published about two days before today. Finch told the Star Tribune the minutes are there for him to take, and that it could be 14 a night or 24 depending on his play. A Dunking with Wolves preseason piece (about 60 days old) says Randle and Reid are no longer with the club, and that he would likely start whenever Gobert misses games. I did not find a published minutes tracker or depth chart, so no starter or usage-rate figure is given here.
The backup center job is his by default, and Finch has publicly said the minutes are open and could reach 24 a night. He has produced efficiently, going 6-of-6 for 12 points at Cleveland on October 26 and posting 10 rebounds against Golden State. Dunking with Wolves argues he would play around 25 minutes and be near a double-double whenever Gobert sits. Minnesota also picked up his team option on October 30.
Fouling is the recurring concern. A preseason piece noted four fouls in 15 minutes against Milwaukee and said that kind of foul trouble could cost him playing time. Dunking with Wolves projects only about 15 minutes a night while Gobert plays, and says Gobert rarely misses games. A Fox Sports headline from about September 4 questioned whether he can handle a bigger role. Rotowire's older outlook, which I could not date precisely, said he was not expected to play a big role.
Where analysts split
The disagreement is how large the backup minutes get. One side expects a stable role of roughly 15 minutes while Gobert plays. Finch's own range runs up to 24, depending on whether Beringer cuts down his fouls and keeps producing.
