Jordan Goodwin
Goodwin is a defensive, rebounding and steals-heavy guard on Phoenix's second unit, and his minutes depend on who else is healthy around him.
Role
He came off the bench in Phoenix's first two games. Per NBC Sports and RotoWire, he played 22 minutes in the Wednesday opener, when Luke Kennard was out, and 20 minutes in Saturday's 131-122 win over Golden State. Kennard had been upgraded to available for that game, so Goodwin's 20 minutes came with Kennard cleared to play. Yahoo's preseason preview projected 25 to 27 minutes per game after 22:27 last season, and Arizona Sports argued he should not play more than 25 minutes unless his shooting improves. Booker, Green and Brooks are expected to take the biggest guard and wing minutes, and Gillespie is expected to get at least 24. I did not find a published starting five, a minutes tracker or a usage rate for this season. Our own last-season line shows only 2 games, which does not match the 70 appearances reported elsewhere, so I use none of those figures.
Fox Sports credits him with a career-best 2025-26 season, averaging 8.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.5 steals in 22.5 minutes over 70 games. He shot about 37 percent from three, and the coaching staff trusted him in late-game situations. He has a new three-year, $19 million deal. Optimists expect a rise to 25 to 27 minutes. NBC's fantasy note says his rebounding, assists and defensive numbers are strong even in limited minutes, and that he could be a streamer if Gillespie or Green misses time.
Arizona Sports says opponents left him open all last season and will again. It says that caps him below about 25 minutes unless he improves as a shooter, and it calls Phoenix's rotation stuffed. NBC Sports warned that his playing time may suffer once Kennard is back. NBC also says he is not a redraft pick unless the league is 16 teams or deeper. He shot 1-for-5 from three on Saturday and 1-for-2 in a preseason game.
Where analysts split
The question is whether his minutes settle near 20 to 22 or climb to 25 to 27. Yahoo's preseason preview expects the higher range. Arizona Sports sees a ceiling around 25 because of his shooting and the crowded guard rotation. NBC Sports says a healthy Kennard cuts into his time. Two games are too few to settle it.
