Kel'el Ware
Kel'el Ware is a bench center for the Bucks, behind starter Myles Turner, and has been productive in limited minutes. His role is still unsettled, and Turner is the main variable.
Role
Ware has come off the bench in the Bucks' first five games, averaging 11.8 points and 8.4 rebounds in 18.8 minutes (WI Sports Heroics, within the last day or so). Myles Turner is the starting center. Ware had 29 minutes to Turner's 20 in a loss to Cleveland (Fox Sports, about five days ago). Foul trouble held him to 14 minutes in the opener, and he fouled out of one early game in 14 minutes (Rotowire). I did not find a published usage rate. Kyle Kuzma is the other name tied to the starting frontcourt: Ware started a preseason game in his place (Rotowire, Oct. 7). Back-to-back rest plans were not found.
Coach Taylor Jenkins said Ware at the five has progressed to being something good for the Bucks on both ends, with more room to grow, and cited his rolling and floor-stretching (WI Sports Heroics). He had back-to-back double-doubles against Philadelphia and Indiana. Milwaukee views the year as a chance to see if he can be a foundational piece (FTN Fantasy). Turner has been named a trade candidate, and a deal would open starter minutes. After the 0-3 start, Heavy framed Turner's scoreless night as handing Ware the big minutes.
Ware has been inconsistent and foul-prone. The Dairyland Express flagged defensive positioning and recovery as habits he must fix before he earns more minutes. CBS Sports (about nine days ago) said he looked slated for a backup role after 15 minutes against Chicago, and it raised the idea of moving on if that persisted. His shooting has been uneven: 25% from three over the first four games, with 67% at the line. He also averaged only about 22 minutes a night over his first two seasons, which the Dairyland Express tied to inconsistency.
Where analysts split
The question is whether Ware overtakes Turner for the starting center job and big minutes, or stays a roughly 15 to 20 minute backup. One camp reads the 29-to-20 minutes game and Turner's scoreless night as a shift. The other points to the 15-minute games and the foul trouble. A Turner trade is the other swing factor, and I found nothing confirming one.
