Mo Bamba
Mo Bamba is a deep-bench center for Utah. His only path to real minutes is injuries or matchups in a thin frontcourt. The latest coverage I found says he hasn't yet had a clear role in the regular season.
Role
He did not play in the season opener at Memphis (Fox Sports Jazz page, indexed within the last few days). Utah leaned on Jaxson Hayes and Jaren Jackson Jr. up front. After the opener, NBA.com's Jazz page says Hayes and Ace Bailey are swapping in and out of the starting five while Jusuf Nurkic (foot) stays out. A Yahoo/SI piece from two days ago says Kyle Filipowski had only nine minutes off the bench in the opener, and it argues Bamba deserves a look of about 10 minutes against New Orleans. Fox Sports says Filipowski should stay ahead of Tony Bradley for the backup center job behind Hayes. I found no report of Bamba's minutes or usage in any regular-season game, and I have no source on how many games he played. His contract carries a partial guarantee this season and a team option for 2027-28 (Hoops Rumors, citing The Athletic).
Utah's center group is short while Nurkic is out with a foot injury. Filipowski was recovering from offseason back surgery and had a limited opener. The SI Jazz site argued that this opens the door for Bamba. He is a 7-footer with a 7-foot-10 wingspan, and he showed rebounding and shot-blocking in preseason, including 19 minutes and three blocks in one game per Yahoo. In 2025-26 he averaged 17 points, 11.4 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in 28 minutes for the Jazz's G League affiliate (Jazz release, March 2026). CBS Sports credits his defensive acumen with giving him value for Utah.
Fox Sports calls him a depth option who could struggle to find consistent minutes without injuries ahead of him. He was left out of the opener entirely. Hayes, Filipowski and Jackson Jr. all rank ahead of him, and Bradley was added as another big body. His NBA track record is thin: Yahoo/SI note he has played only 93 regular-season games over the past three years, and he spent most of last season in the G League. NBC Sports called his signing unlikely to affect fantasy basketball. SI's July piece described him as a third-string center who can fill in at the five in a pinch.
Where analysts split
The disagreement is whether Nurkic's absence and Filipowski's health give Bamba a real rotation spot, as the Utah-focused SI coverage argues. Fox Sports' read is that he stays a depth option behind Hayes and Filipowski. Nurkic's return timeline is also open: reports say he is out for multiple weeks, and I found no firm date.
Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
