Myles Turner
Turner is Milwaukee's starting center through the first three games of a rebuilding season. His job looks less secure than it did, and he is a standing trade candidate.
Role
He started Milwaukee's first three regular-season games, per Lineups.com's page as indexed about 16 days ago, and the Bucks started him again in the two games after that, per Underdog NBA via hottakes.com. His opener was 32 minutes per NBA.com (10/22). Lineups.com shows 27.3 minutes per game over three games, with 7.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks, on 39.1% shooting and 3 turnovers per game. Dairyland Express says he has had foul trouble in every game so far. In the starting five he is alongside Rollins, Herro, Jaquez and Kuzma. Kel'el Ware is second at center on ESPN's depth chart (indexed snippet, not fetched), with Jericho Sims third. I found no report of a minutes cap or a back-to-back rest plan for the regular season. His preseason rest day on Oct. 14 is the only rest reported.
He is the incumbent starter and the Bucks' most established big man on a roster of young players. Preseason averages were 10.3 points and 2.7 blocks in 21.7 minutes (Rotowire via CBS Sports). Roundtable.io expects him to open the season as starter. Skolnick (via SI) suggests Ware can play power forward for now, which would let Turner keep the center minutes and the shot blocking.
His first three games were poor: Dairyland Express cites poor mobility, getting pushed around near the basket, foul trouble in every game and 39.1% shooting. Last season's card shows 3 games and 246 minutes, which I can't use to judge a role. Roundtable.io says new coach Taylor Jenkins has no ties to Turner and that Ware could take the starting job within the season. Rotowire (via CBS Sports, June) calls Turner a top trade candidate as the team turns to development, and fans are demanding Ware start (hottakes.com).
Where analysts split
The split is whether Turner keeps the starting center job over Kel'el Ware, and for how long. Roundtable.io has Ware taking over at some point. SI's Skolnick would start Ware at power forward so that Turner can raise his trade value. SI's Tre Allen says that starting both leaves the Bucks short at backup center, with Sims the only true center. A trade is a separate open question, and I found no report of one being close.
