Naz Reid
Naz Reid is Charlotte's lead big man through three games of 2026-27, after the offseason trade that sent him from Minnesota in the LaMelo Ball deal, and his production so far is well above his career norms.
Role
Reid has played 33, 25 and 37 minutes in three games (NBA.com game log, checked 26 October), and Yahoo (26 October) says he is over 30 per game, which he never reached in seven Minnesota seasons. SI's preview, about 47 days old, called him a projected starter. I did not read a starting five or rotation tracker, so his starting status is unconfirmed. Fox Sports lists him at 20.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, with 4.0 threes per game. SI says he split his past minutes about 54% center and 46% power forward. RotoWire (about 24 October) says Kon Knueppel (hamstring) and Coby White (calf) are unavailable, which is feeding his usage. I found no reporting on back-to-back rest plans. His last-season line in our data covers only 3 games, so I make no comparison to it.
Charlotte's front office told other teams he was not available and had wanted him for a long time. With Ball gone, he is the primary big and a floor-spacer who also blocks shots and takes steals, with an 84th percentile stop rate per SI. Yahoo frames the Hornets as setting him up for a breakout and an All-Star case. He has also scored 23 points with 9 rebounds and 2 blocks in 37 minutes against Miami, and defended Giannis Antetokounmpo well.
The early volume may be inflated by injuries to Knueppel and White, and his career-high minutes could shrink when they return. His shooting is uneven: 8-of-18, 7-of-16 and 9-of-16 in the three games, and 7 turnovers in the loss to Atlanta. He played only seven second-half minutes in that blowout, so his minutes depend on game flow. SI's own question is whether his impact holds up in a bigger role, and the sample is three games.
Where analysts split
The open question is whether the 30-plus minutes and high usage last once Knueppel and White are healthy, or whether this is an injury-driven spike. The coverage I found does not settle it.
