Pat Spencer
Pat Spencer is a 30-year-old two-way guard signed by Phoenix in July 2026, and the coverage I found expects him to be injury depth and G League depth, not a regular rotation player.
Role
No minutes or usage figure for the regular season is in the coverage I found. RotoWire's July 2 note, shown on CBS Sports, says he could play for the Suns occasionally in 2026-27 but is expected to spend most of his time in the G League. A Bright Side of the Sun piece (about 69 days old when indexed) lists Booker and Green as primary creators, with Gillespie and Kennard as secondary playmakers. It says Spencer won't crack the rotation without an injury, and probably wouldn't reach 15 minutes a game even then. In Phoenix's first preseason game, a Blue Man Hoop article (about 19 days old when indexed) says he played about 7 minutes, the fewest of any Suns player who got on the floor. I did not read a current depth chart or rotation tracker, and I have no regular-season game log for him.
Bright Side of the Sun argues that Phoenix signed him for reliability when injuries or foul trouble force guard rotation changes, and that last season's guard injuries showed why that depth matters. It points to his production with Golden State when he got real minutes or starts, including 40% from three in 14 starts. Blue Man Hoop also says his physical, intense style fits the Suns' new approach.
Blue Man Hoop says he may be buried quickly in the Suns' backcourt, and that he lacks the length to help much on defense. The same piece notes this is his last year of two-way eligibility, and it questions his isolation scoring and passing. SI's signing story, about 115 days old when indexed, also expects little playing time behind Booker, Green, Gillespie and Kennard. A two-way contract also carries a G League assignment expectation, which is why the CBS note says he will spend most of his time there.
Where analysts split
Broad agreement that he is behind four or five guards. The only open question is how much a guard injury would move him, and the sources differ on that. Bright Side of the Sun thinks he is real injury insurance but caps him below about 15 minutes. Blue Man Hoop is more doubtful that he holds a rotation spot at all.
Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
