VJ Edgecombe
Edgecombe is a starting guard on a 76ers team that has opened 4-0 (the Sixer Sense piece calls Sunday the fourth game, and Hottakes describes it as unbeaten). He is out Sunday with an abdominal contusion that coverage so far reads as minor.
Role
Sixer Sense (Oct 26) lists him among the starting five, with Embiid also out Sunday for workload management. Hottakes, a low-grade aggregator, puts his recent workload at nearly 33 minutes a night. I found no official usage rate. With him out, CBS Sports/RotoWire say Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Anfernee Simons figure to take larger roles. Another preview names Dean Wade as a gap-filler. Hottakes says the next game is Wednesday at Indiana. The 76ers have not confirmed a return date.
He held a real role in a loaded lineup. Fox Sports (Oct 25) says he looks improved as a playmaker, which could widen his role. He had 17 points and 13 rebounds with five threes against Milwaukee, playing through the injury. Nick Nurse described only soreness from a knee to the midsection, and Sixer Sense reads the absence as low concern.
The injury list is already long. Hottakes cites a lumbar contusion, a thumb sprain and a groin hit against Milwaukee, plus the abdominal contusion. Edgecombe is sharing the ball with a star-heavy roster, and the lineup has several other bodies out, so the role is uncertain when everyone is healthy. Sixer Sense says he is now a player to monitor for as long as he stays on the injury report.
Where analysts split
The disagreement is mainly over durability and how much his role grows. Optimists see a minor bruise and a growing playmaking role. Skeptics see a pattern of knocks and a crowded rotation. I found no analyst split over his minutes or starting job.
