Carson Beck

Consensus #295 · QB40Week 9: at SEA, 2nd vs QBOutUpdated Oct 20

Beck is a third-string rookie quarterback who is not expected to play soon, and he has no standalone fantasy role right now.

Role

The wire report (Oct 18) has him inactive and listed as Arizona's emergency third quarterback for the Rams game. ESPN's depth chart, which I could not date, shows Jacoby Brissett first, Gardner Minshew II second and Beck third. I found no snap or target data for Beck. The Big Lead (about 5 days old) cites ESPN's Dan Graziano saying Arizona plans to give Beck a chance this season but he likely won't play until late November, when the schedule gets easier. I could not verify that report at its source.

The case for

Arizona is struggling early, and The Big Lead says that could build pressure to change quarterbacks. The team reportedly does plan to play him this season. He was a third-round pick (No. 65 overall) and started in the Hall of Fame Game. Sporting News said he showed impressive preseason tape, and that the team could turn to him if the year gets out of hand.

The case against

The reported plan is patience, with a possible debut no earlier than late November. Pro Football Network noted that his arm strength was affected by right elbow surgery after a late-2024 injury, and that his draft stock was never high. Brissett and Minshew are both ahead of him, and he is currently inactive on game days. Nothing I found says when he would play or how often.

Where analysts split

The open question is timing: whether Arizona keeps to the reported late-November target or moves him up if the losing continues. The Big Lead says early debut remains possible but the club seems willing to wait. I found no analyst arguing he should be promoted now, so this is a timing question, not a real split.

Injury: Out: assessed none

Healthy inactive, now backup QB

Not an injury; Beck is listed out purely as a coach's decision, now serving as Minshew's backup after Brissett's demotion. No fantasy relevance unless he's actually playing.

What would change this: Any announcement that Beck is starting over Minshew.

Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
