Jones is still Indianapolis's starting quarterback, but his 2026 play has been poor and his hold on the job is the main question for the rest of the season.

CBS Sports, citing Fox 59's Mike Chappell, reports that Shane Steichen said Jones stays the starter for the Jaguars game, with the Colts at 2-5. As a runner he has 21 carries for 68 yards and a touchdown, and CBS notes he is coming off major surgery. Sunday's four carries for 13 yards fit that. CBS names Anthony Richardson as the possible alternative. I did not find a snap share, and I did not read a depth chart.
Steichen has publicly backed him, and CBS says his contract should give him some security. SI notes he has looked like his 2025 self at times this season. In 2025 PFF ranked him eighth among QBs after four games, and his underneath accuracy and rushing were why the Colts signed him. Tyler Warren and Jonathan Taylor give him real offensive pieces to work with.
Through the first four games he had 3 TD passes against 4 interceptions and averaged 5.7 yards per attempt, per Yahoo. CBS Sports' Garrett Podell ranked him 28th of 32 starters entering Week 5. By CBS's Week 8 note he is at 59.6 percent completions, 4:7 TD:INT and 5.8 yards per attempt. SI says he has seven turnovers he was responsible for through four games. Sunday's 13-of-22 for 108 yards and an interception in a 16-10 loss to the Vikings fits the pattern, and CBS says another poor performance or two could put Richardson back under center.

The question is whether the Colts stay with Jones through the slump or switch to Richardson. Steichen and the contract point to staying. The efficiency and turnover numbers, and CBS's note about Richardson, point to a possible change.
