Darnold is the unquestioned Seattle starter for the rest of the season. Current coverage says his turnovers and a shaky offensive line are the main risks to his output.

Starting quarterback for the defending champions, who are 3-2 after the Week 5 loss to the 49ers. His supporting cast is thin. Coverage describes the run game as in disarray and the backfield as short-handed, with George Holani and Emanuel Wilson each fumbling against San Francisco. Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the leading target; he had 5 catches for 102 yards and a touchdown in that game. Elijah Arroyo was the intended target on one of Darnold's interceptions. I did not find a snap share, a target-share table or a depth chart reading, so I give no figures for those. The Week 6 opponent is Denver, on a short week (Yahoo Sports and seahawks.com, about 12 October).
The Seahawks' own coverage and the Yahoo Sports grade treat this as a bad game rather than a collapse. Darnold kept Seattle in it until the final snap and drew a C+ from Yahoo Sports. ESPN says he was sacked five times, his most in 24 games with Seattle, and did well to keep plays alive under heavy pressure. Field Gulls says the line was poor, including some bad moments from Charles Cross. SI says it isn't time to panic and notes that the 49ers are 5-0. Optimists also point to last season, when he took care of the ball during the playoff run. Seattle has a top defense, and a returning run game would take pressure off him.
Darnold has thrown five interceptions in the first five games, all in the last three. SI says he hasn't played flawlessly, which Seattle needs while the run game struggles. Field Gulls says he is "seeing ghosts again" and took puzzling sacks. Its writer is not calling for a bench but says this version isn't worth a long-term investment. The Week 5 game had 195 passing yards, two interceptions and a modest completion total of 18 of 29. If the line and backfield don't improve, he may have to carry more of the offense while still turning the ball over.

The disagreement is about cause. One side says Darnold's turnovers are his own problem, with interceptions at bad moments and puzzling sacks. The other says the offensive line, the fumbling backs and the broken run game are driving them. Nobody I found questions that he starts. The open question is whether his ball security recovers as the surrounding offense stabilizes.
