Tanner McKee

Consensus #259 · QB31Week 9: vs NYG, 28th vs QBUpdated Oct 20

McKee is Philadelphia's starting quarterback while Jalen Hurts is on injured reserve, but he is starting behind a shaky offensive line in an offense that was struggling before Hurts left.

Role

NBC Sports Philadelphia (Oct. 19) says McKee starts through at least the bye week and possibly beyond. He made his first non-Week 18 start against Carolina and went 26 of 45 for 215 yards and a touchdown. He was sacked three times and hit 11 times. Hurts is on IR with blood clots, and CBS reports he is expected to miss the rest of 2026. Rookie Cole Payton became the No. 3 QB after the Eagles released Andy Dalton. I did not read a depth chart or a snap tracker, but a starting QB takes essentially every offensive snap. The line is missing Dickerson, Kendall and Lane Johnson. Willie Lampkin was at left guard and Jake Majors at center.

The case for

He is now the unquestioned starter, and he found out only on Thursday that he would start. NBC Sports Philadelphia's Zangaro notes the Eagles could mold the offense around him now that Hurts' absence will last longer, and he went through a lot of meetings with OC Sean Mannion and QBs coach Parks Frazier to pick his favorite plays. Reporters credit him with making the most of a bad situation against Carolina: the run game was stuck, the line gave up pressure, and field position was poor. He had good moments and took the blame afterward.

The case against

The offense is a mess regardless of who plays quarterback. Over the four-game losing streak it averaged 14.6 points and 219 yards per game. The line is banged up and the run game stalled against Carolina. His career sample is small: 812 passing yards and six touchdowns before this week's update, per Yahoo. A bad snap and a blocked punt also helped sink the Panthers game. Nothing in what I found says the problems are close to fixed.

Where analysts split

The coverage I found does not show analysts split on whether McKee is the starter. The open question is how much of the offense's problems come from the quarterback and how much from the line, injuries and play design. Local writers lean toward the latter but have only one start to judge him on. I found no ranking or projection sources, so I can't describe a split among fantasy analysts.
