Simpson is a 2026 first-round rookie who is third on the Rams' quarterback depth chart behind Matthew Stafford and Stetson Bennett, so he has no fantasy role unless injuries hit ahead of him.
Role
No offensive snaps are expected. The wire report (Oct 18) has him inactive by coach's decision, serving as emergency third quarterback against the Cardinals. ClutchPoints reported he was also the emergency QB3 in Week 1, with Bennett as the backup. I did not find a current depth chart, so I can't confirm the order today. Competition is Bennett for QB2, with Stafford ahead of both.
The Rams spent the 13th overall pick on him as the successor to Stafford. ESPN reported before camp that he was likely to be the backup in 2026. He had a strong preseason, completing 47 of 60 passes for 382 yards and three touchdowns in three games (therams.com). McVay said he feels really good about him. If Stafford were hurt and Bennett struggled, he could move up.
Bennett won the Week 1 QB2 job. He also took the second-team reps early in camp, and SI argued the Rams will bring Simpson along slowly. Simpson is inactive on game days and Stafford is the reigning MVP according to McVay. Even if Stafford missed time, Bennett would be next in line, not Simpson.
