Jackson LaCombe

Consensus #193 · D28 · tier 9Week 5: 4 gamesUpdated Nov 2

LaCombe is the Ducks' top left-side defenseman and a first-unit power-play and penalty-kill regular, and nothing I found suggests that changes soon.

Role

Inside the Rink's Nov. 1 preview (searched Nov. 2) has him on pair 1 with Drew Helleson. Heavy, citing Daily Faceoff via Derek Lee, says he looks set to play with Helleson against Ottawa. Helleson would be making his seventh start with him. His partner has rotated: Tristan Luneau in the Oct. 24 preview and Noah Warren in the Oct. 27 and Oct. 29 previews. He is on the first power-play unit in every preview I found from Oct. 24 to Nov. 1, with Sennecke, Carlsson, Granlund and Gauthier. He is also on the first penalty-kill unit in those previews. ESPN's line page, undated in the result and indexed 12 days ago, also has him on the top pair and on the first penalty-kill pair with Warren. I could not fetch a live Daily Faceoff page, so these come from search snippets and secondary sites. I found no ice-time figure for this season. The only competition for his power-play spot I saw named is the second unit, where Luneau is listed. His last season in our data was 14 games, 15 points, 7 of them on the power play.

The case for

He is the only defenseman on the first power-play unit, which has Carlsson, Granlund, Sennecke and Gauthier. He also kills penalties and plays on the top pair, so his minutes should stay heavy. His power-play points last season (7 in 14 games) fit that usage.

The case against

The pairing is unsettled: he has had three different partners in recent previews (Luneau, Warren, Helleson). Anaheim was 4-6-0 as of Oct. 24, and Daily Faceoff-sourced lines change between morning skate and puck drop. ESPN's page, indexed 12 days ago, showed no defenseman on the power play at all. I found no reporting on how many minutes he is playing now.

Where analysts split

Broad agreement on his usage; I found no analyst debate about him. The only open question I could see is who his defense partner will be, and none of the sources I read says whether that affects his production.

Research confidence: reported. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
