Dahlin is Buffalo's top-pair, first power-play defenseman, and the only open question is whether the upper-body issue costs him games.

Inside The Rink's Oct. 31 preview for Buffalo at Los Angeles has him on the first pair with Mattias Samuelsson. It also has him on the first power-play unit with Quinn, Benson, Ostlund and Thompson. Its Oct. 21 preview (Flyers at Sabres) had the same pairing and unit, and listed him on the first penalty-kill unit with Samuelsson. Owen Power is on the second power-play unit in both previews. I found no ice-time figures for this season. Those previews are projections from a third-party site, not Daily Faceoff or a beat writer. The Daily Faceoff fetch returned no usable lineup content and carried only a March 2026 timestamp, so I am not reporting what it says. The wire note has Dahlin saying he thinks he will be ready for Wednesday against Philadelphia. That is his own expectation and the club has not confirmed it.
He has held the top defense pair and first power-play unit in the preseason skates and in both projected lineups I found. The wire note suggests he is close to playing. In the 11 games last season he had 9 points, 5 of them on the power play, and 33 shots. That shows the production a first-unit role can give him when he is in the lineup.
He has an upper-body issue and has been listed day-to-day, and he said only that he "thinks" he will be ready. If he misses games, his first power-play spot could pass to someone else. Last season he played just 11 games, so durability is a fair worry. I found no current reporting on how Buffalo would reshuffle its power play in his absence.
